In the spring and summer of 1967, CN found a need to lease about 25 units. Along with some B&LE F7A and F7B’s, they also leased a dozen DM&IR SD9’s, two former NYC GP9’s, and 5 of the Canadian-assigned N&W cab units. Doug has captured 4 of the N&W units after they were off-lease and returned for joint inspection at Fort Erie shop. It should be noted that N&W only had 11 cab units plus GP7 3453 for Canadian use, so obviously they were experiencing a slowdown that summer.  The lease was a very convenient situation for CN, since the F units were based out of the Fort Erie shop anyway. They were basically used in the Toronto/Sarnia/Windsor/Fort Erie triangle and were not known to have travelled north to Capreol or North Bay, or anywhere further east than Belleville or Brockville. They were mixed with any motive power that was available, including Ontario Northland power that was utilized on Toronto to Niagara Falls and Toronto Fort Erie trains.

  1. Souvenirs,I worked in Fort Erie in 1971,there were 3 scrapped in the yards that we used for parts,they were really beat up.
