Caption: In the early 1970s, you never knew what what you might see track-side. In this photo, with a processing date of May 1972, we have the eastbound Starlight passing through Burlington behind leased B&O F7A 4487 and PC GP9s 7431 and 7430. The PC units were not known for their reliability and CP must have grabbed whatever was handy to get the train over the road--in this case one of 20 B&O units based in Winnipeg (16 A units and 4 B units). According the March 1972 UCRS Newsletter, CP had 100 units on lease over the winter of 1971-72--including locomotives from the BAR, B&LE, B&M, DMIR, LS&I, Bellequip, and PNC! (However, new SD-40-2s were on the way--deliveries started in mid-February 1972.)
