In situations where the power of L516 is just one engine, it's often that it'll just get turned around in Belleville to bring the return trip, L517, back to Toronto. After all, there's a perfectly good wye for them to use. For whatever reason that didn't happen on this particular day. Having brought 516 into Belleville the previous night, CN 5777 ended up leading 517 in reverse at track speed all the way to Toronto. Truly a sight to behold, and one reminiscent of the days when long hood forward was the norm. Just a few moments before I took this shot I heard the crew of 376, which passed me earlier, poke fun at 517's unusual setup over the radio. Something along the lines of "Lookin' good, but I think you're facing the wrong way". I couldn't help but chuckle at that once I saw 517 round the bend.
