That’s really neat to see, thanks for sharing Arnold! I love seeing what the angle looked like 23 years ago, and I love seeing that rail train wrapped around that shallow leg of the wye. Very cool, if CN sent a rail train here today, not much could stop me from trying to replicate this haha.
Arnold, I assume that rail was what was needed to lay down the connecting line from the CN Port Colborne Train station to Robin Hood along the Weir (3rd Canal)?!? Looks like they are returning to N. Falls with what was not needed.
Thats right. Not far off “opening time” at the old PCHR. (official opening July 2, 1997)
Most interesting Arnold, now where was CNR Welland Jct Station building located in this picture ? It looks to me that the rail train is curving off the old Canada Air Line and heading northward on to the old Humberstone line heading to Welland and eventually Clifton Jct. . Is this correct ? Thanks for confirming the date the NS&T Humberstone Ave (Elm St ? ) was officially replaced by the “new” PCHR track north along the west side of the Welland Canal past the ex-Robin Hood Mill elevator. What happened to the old NS&T rail removed from Elm?
Thanks to you and Mark for sharing.
railwayguy: I’m not really qualified to answer your queries, as Welland Jct sta was before my time, but I thought it was a few miles of here.
Hopefully someone will chime in with the answer.
The line went north and eventually Clifton Jct., yes, because that was the route of this rail train. It overnighted at Niagara Falls CN yard.
I remember the old NS&T track in weeds, but do not know when it was pulled up. Don’t think there is any sign of it now along Elm.
New PCHR track went down commencing around the end of May 1997. Old CN station re-roofed around that time as well. And bridge removed.
All right, figured it out ! CN Yager is east of the “new” Welland Canal diversion to the east of Welland, and the old CNR Welland Jct was west of the “new” Welland Canal, in Dain City, just to the east of the former Welland Canal that went through downtown Welland. So Yager is, as you noted, at least 2 to maybe 4 miles east of Dain City and the old site of CNR Welland Jct Station.
Glad you have it figured out. I knew the Jct was close, thats about it. So many changes and the spiderweb of track is confusing enough at times.
