Caption: In 1974, in anticipation of the increasing water level of Kinbasket Lake behind the Mica Dam on the Columbia River, CP constructed a water-level grade between miles 61 and 66 to replace the westward dip down to Beavermouth and the subsequent climb back out of the Columbia valley. Here, on the original mainline at 1710 on Tuesday 1974-04-23, SD40-2s 5634 + 5596 + 5822 are eastbound at the west switch old Beavermouth as seen from the new grade.
