I'm standing just to the west of Strachan Av when it used to be a level crossing and still sported the Watchman's Tower (as seen on the extreme right) catching the Canadian leaving Union in the early afternoon. Rather long train. I can see in the photo a dozen cars, including the Steam Jenny. It is the second year of VIA and CP 1413, acquired by VIA in 1978 along with the-now VIA 1961 (x-CP) and both were retired not long after.

  1. 1979 – You would make a foray into Toronto back then? Was this a Sunday or a Monday? A very nice shot but has it ever changed down in that area today.

  2. It was a Saturday. I must have been on vacation because normally I would never want Sat off.

  3. Arnold, I know I’ve said this before but you were so fortunate to capture the “smattering of colour” during the VIA transitional phase! Excellent capture! – Ken

  4. Kind words. Thank you Ken.
