Caption: I'm not too sure of the ID of this train, but it's either 331 or 422 starting up again after being held up by a boat in the Seaway. This past week, the canal has been super busy and held up not only 330 again tonight, but a late 421 that was at Glenridge when this was shot (note the green signal in the background). Looks like summer has fully blossomed too, as the Bruce Trail I took here was super overgrown and thankfully I didn't find any ticks after multiple checks. Always remember to check many times for ticks, even if you're wearing long pants. I have found many in this location before.

Phil, I’m surprised the weeds creeping up on the ROW isn’t a problem for CN employees. I’m sure they brush up against the weeds quite often. Ticks love the weeds that grow around train tracks.
I’ve had two black legged ticks latch to me while trackside. The second one I didn’t spot soon enough, and of course it was Lyme infected. I guess the railroaders are generally fine since they wear long heavy pants. It’s something to think about though, as Lyme disease cases are increasing dramatically.
Hey Daniel, the weeds don’t get too close to the ballast actually. A few here and there. Fortunately train crews only have to walk on the ballast area if there is a problem with the train and not on a regular basis. They do give the train crews Deep Woods Off which does have lots of DEET . I am not sure how many guys use it though.
Docta. A very good catch for sure and love how you noted the clear signal on the south track! A highly placed source told me this week that CN has sold the Grimbsy Sub to Metrolinx That will mean putting back the second track between Jordan and Nelles Rd, plus upgrading of the track as passenger trains are limited to 65mph across the sub. But the biggest surprise is a supposed agreement between the Seaway and Metrolinx for GO train priority. Stay tuned!!
Hey Phil, thanks for the news! I figured it would happen sooner or later. That’d explain the GO workers I saw scouting out stuff at the St Catharines station this morning. Those upgrades are also great to hear, as that second track should never have been ripped out in the first place. Now, as someone in the industry, in your opinion, do you think Metrolinx will keep freight on the Grimsby, considering how little freights there are now( although the numbers seem to be increasing with the recent comeback of 330/1, and X422 still running). I think rebuilding Bridge 10 would be a great idea and run the smaller freights up it to connect to the Stamford.
Hey Docta.. CN will have trackage rights as they do along all of GO’s other corridors to move trains. The traffic along the Stamford and Grimbsy Subs is international and higly important. So the existings trains will still run. Don’t hold your breath for Bridge 1o though. That will never happen.
