Caption: Ignace Yard. Just a shell of it's former self. It's main job these days can see the loading and unloading of supplies for ES (ties, tie plates, anchors, etc), car storage and to facilitate the rock trains which come and go from Dyment Pit 37 miles to the west. So I suppose this picture sums it's purpose up perfectly. A "Box Train" (grain empties) has been yarded in the north yard, while in the south yard a solo gondola loaded with ties sits beside a Herzog train fresh in from "The Pit", having been yarded in track 1 and showcasing the eclectic GMD trio of CP 9014- CP 3649- CP 5866.
Of note, you may notice the white haze on the horizon. That is smoke from the reported 76 fires that were burning across the district, within 3 weeks that number would sky rocket to over 120 fires. This year has been incredibly dry across most of western and central Canada and into the northwest region of Ontario. Prayers to all those affected by the fires.

Great photo David. Being more of a station guy, I never knew that Ignace had a yard, let alone an expansive one at one point in time. I wonder, from your photo, where did the old station used to stand?
I stopped there on July 23 – was 5866 and 3649 at that point, facing the other way. All of the grain cars were still there too.
@Todd Steinman, there use to be a rather attractive station located between the north and south mainlines just out of frame to the right about 50 yards or so.
@jknott86 the power has been cycling back and forth on average about once a week. The CMQ had something ailing it this day and was removed in Winnipeg on the return trip westward. With the ex UP SD90MAC not fit for lead the consist gets wyed.
@Todd Steinman, Mr. Mooney stopped in a few years ago and grabbed this photo of the station when it was still in use. http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=15022
