Caption: I posted a shot of this train around 4 years ago (#24470) but felt this one of interest too because it not only shows the Guelph Jct turn going around the last leg of the wye in order to return to Toronto minus it's train; it also shows some of the immediate area, including the now-departed GO staging area. Since this image was taken, some track has been removed, the OSRs Guelph Jct track has been expanded; the GO has departed for Milton and the whole general area differs in this shot of 25 years ago.
The CP was having a terrible time getting enough power these years, as an upsurge in traffic caught them short. So odd lashups on CP were somewhat common, but rarely as outlandish as this day. VIA 6456, HATX 216, VIA 6455 and CP 8241 was the power assigned this run, and after dropping off it's train; returned eastward light.

Another great photo Arnold! Too bad that station got torn down, all in the name of expanding storage of GO at the junction. I believe it would have stood just to the right, around where that laneway ends after crossing all the tracks. Now with GO gone, makes you wonder what could have been saved. Guess we’ll never know!
That’s one helluva lash up Mr Mooney! Must have knocked you off your feet when it rounded the corner! I believe the track in the foreground has been removed. Last time I was at Guelph Jct there was a gondola parked on it. Nicely done as always.
Thanks, Brad, and Todd: The reality of this shot was the train approached Guelph Jct., westbound. Stopped short of First Line crossing; then backed around the wye onto the Ham sub, then moved up the east leg (as pictured here) and then proceeded to back down after crossing over to drop its train on the north side where you can see other cars in the distance. It then proceeded back toward Toronto, running light. It was quite the entertaining time of running around grabbing photos of it all. I could only imagine that in this day with all the phone connections with you guys; photographers running all over the place would have been almost as entertaining as the train itself. As it was back then, no one knew this train was coming..at least there were no other groups of train buffs here.
Wow, you watched it wye too!! A++ for this one.
