Caption: I have to give Ontario Southland a lot of credit. They have operated a fleet of Alco/MLW's since start up of the Guelph Junction Railway. Gradually first generation EMD's have become the primary power for most operations. Nevertheless considering it is 2020 and Alco went out if business in 1969, with MLW throwing in the towel nine years later, it's honestly amazing these old units are still running today. With OSR possibly ending operations in Guelph this year it's no surprise the roster is thinning out. I have always liked the M420 model especially considering how similar it is to my true favorite the Alco C424, sadly OSR's M420's have never lived up to the company's expectations so it is no surprise that all four have been sold to a railroad in Quebec. Today the last two operational M420's left the shop in Guelph Junction for the last time, ready to begin their journey east, later joining the two part source units already on their way. Unfortunately the line to Guelph doesn't work well for northbounds in the morning but the sight of a four unit MLW lash up has to be recorded and made a nice sight from the top of the hill north of Arkel. Hopefully the pair of M420's still have some good years of service ahead of them in Quebec.
