Caption: I departed Moose Jaw before sunrise on this Monday morning, and headed south for Assiniboia, home of the Great Western Railway. I got to town shortly before 0630, and the shop crews had just fired up 563 and 575, which the crew of 777 would be using for the day. The crew for the day's job arrived at around 0700, and worked the yard for a while and got paperwork sorted before departing around 1100. They left with 28 hoppers of frac sand for Dollard, 35 tanks to be set off in storage at various points along the way, and 24 of their own grain hoppers (purchased Saskatchewan hoppers) to be set off along the way. Their journey would take them as far as Dollard, where another crew was to take over and continue heading onward. This particular run west out of Assiniboia for the GWR is long and slow, and takes multiple crews multiple days to get there and back. They make set offs heading away from Assiniboia, and lifts on the way back. In this particular shot, they are coming up past the old Pool elevator in Aneroid, where they would set off tanks for storage. I checked a rail somewhere west of here as they worked - 85 lbs and dated 1938.
