I am about under the QEW overpass of the Welland River and this westbound #321 is just crossing the 'island' in the river. Easy parking along Montrose Rd and a short walk made this a favourite spot of mine back when mainline freights ran. Now, the track just extends from Brookfield to the Chippawa industrial area rather than thru to the US bridge, and is just served by a local when needed. Mainline Hamilton Sub freights now run via CN over the International Bridge at Fort Erie.
Second unit to CSX 8221 is 6218. There is a very light snow falling.

  1. Cool shot Arnold.

For everyone’s information, I believe TE21 (the Tuesday to Saturday Welland Yard night job) heads up the Montrose twice a week on a pretty set schedule. Fingers crossed it slips into the day for one reason or another one time I’m around there (so catching lightning in a bottle haha), as I’d certainly like to see a train somewhere on this trackage. The same applies for the Port Maitland run – twice a week during the night for TE21.

  2. The Port Maitland run was a day run until not too long ago… it’ll come and go.. just have to get lucky.

The Spray train ran in daylight through here a couple years ago. Don’t think it did last year.

  3. I’ve been thinking about some ideas for that spray train. I missed it in Hamilton last year by minutes, then caught it in Thunder Bay (and chased to Mackenzie Station and Loon) by dumb luck. This year – thought and planning.

  4. Arnold BTW I love this shot. Thanks for sharing.
