Caption: Heading south on a loaded coal train, at the north switch Tumbler siding. Just over the switch is the wye at Tumbler and in the distance is a ballast train in the siding. The roadbed, track and ballast are just in the final stages of completion on the newly opened BC Rail Tumbler Subdivision serving the long awaited BC "north east coal fields" and coal mines.
Image taken from the cab of a CN locomotive, no GF6C electric units leading this time.
The scenery was fantastic, the train trips were long and this late evening image is no exception, "it'll be an all niter".

Wonder how, with no catenary, GMD tested out the GF6C’s over in London?
Interesting question about testing the units. I really don’t know if or much testing could be done at the GMDL plant in London. I suppose some type of “load box” testing might have been possible. I do know that there were a lot of GMDL technicians riding with the units while in initial stages of operation on BC Rail as well as technicians from the company that made the high voltage heavy electrical equipment.
