Caption: Having picked up his clearance at the St-Lambert station, the engineman of Taschereau Yard (Montreal)-Gordon Yard (Moncton) train 330 prepares to throttle up once the rear of the train is clear of the Victoria Bridge and the conductor in the van gets his copy from the TMD.
But, as Bob Dylan sang "The times, they are a-changin'"...Train movements are now authorized by Occupancy Control System, rather than train orders. In a little over a month, the massive VIA service cut-back will take effect. A few weeks later, the TMD's job will be consolidated with the St-Hyacinthe sub dispatcher's job (and the St-Hyacinthe operator-leverman's job) in Montreal. Cabooseless operations are scheduled to begin on the Montreal-Halifax corridor on 1 April 1990. And the new General Electric C40-8 units to be delivered later in the year will displace older power on many trains.
So savour this HR616/C630/SD40/GMD1/M420W lash-up..."The times, they are a-changing'".
