GTW 5849 in the midst of farms at harvest time, this could be rural Michigan on a GTW Branchline but it's actually South Western Ontario, and this was the first time a GT painted locomotive ended up down this way in decades if not ever according to my friends who were around in the 90's - back then these locomotives did not migrate to locals, ever, or so I'm told. GTW units on Locals around here has been a fairly recent phenomenon.

  1. That was the best light of that morning.

  2. It’s always a good day when you get to see a GT unit!

  3. Nice. Looks like a scene from out on the Prairies.

  4. This is a powerful shot. Well done.

  5. Thank you Gents. That’s what I thought. It’s just west of Guelph and it really depends what that farmer grows.. most of the time he chooses corn…

  6. BTW Kevin it was great to see you this day, I’m hopeful to see you again when you are back down south! always great to run into the Floody Boy!

  7. CN L542 GT frenzy. Nice you got it solo.

  8. Corn’ll deplete the soil. Gotta rotate! The wheat looks quite nice here, much better than corn would have. Fortunate it was still on – most is harvested by late July.

  9. Thank you James for your agricultural knowledge. Do you also have a fondness for the Agricultural music too? :)

  10. One of my favourite things to do is driving around and checking out the farms of Norfolk County. Mid-July in particular – when the rye and wheat harvest is getting underway (watching combines and the bailing of straw is easily as entertaining for me as any train haha), and other crops are really starting to take off around then too.

  11. @SCH: Great to see you too! I’ll be back for another short stint…

  12. Very nice. Is he running light or performing a switching move there?
