Caption: FREE ADVERTISING? The Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo Railway Co. was always in the shadow of what is nowadays the two most powerful railroad companies - that of the Canadian National and the Canadian Pacific. Although CP did end up purchasing the TH&B in time, it all came to a crashing halt in the mid-80's with a devastating landslide after a major rainstorm. It washed away the grade coming down into Brantford on the Waterford Subdivision, thus only today there is a small section of trackage still in place. It is used to serve a couple of industries...and here, beside Earl Haig Park a remnant from the good old days of railroading remains. Although the crossing signs have changed this post still stands, proudly symbolizing an era of railroading that has changed drastically in the last 60 years.

CP always owned a bit of the TH&B. Vanderbilt companies owned the rest (Michigan Central, later NYC etc) until CP purchased all of the company in 1977 from what had then become Conrail, as they were looking at unloading non-US assets.
