What were the boxcars for?
Not really certain why Steve, but probably for fill out and possible additonal braking. Or maybe, just to make the trip look like a real train. Who knows???
Great image! If I recall correctly this was one of the final break-in runs shortly before the locomotive was delivered to Ottawa. It was a non-revenue trip – the passengers were invited dignitaries and ORA members who had been involved in the restoration. I brought my brother along as my guest. It was a really fun day. I took a ton of photos and then destroyed the film while developing it in our basement darkroom. Great memories – thank you for posting!
