The ubiquitous GP 9 ( GMD 1956 )
Commonly referred to as: Geep
CPR purchased new 191 ( + / - ) Geep's ( 7's and 9's ) all GMD built 1952 through 1958, ( plus the F's ( same mechanicals different body)).
And under load, I can still hear that unique ringing sound of that ( non turbo charged ) 567 engine.
Six decades ago The Geep replaced steam classes D, P, G, and just about anything else steam ( that is the 10 Wheelers, Mikado, Pacific ( large and small ), steam in general).
And today even the ubiquitous SD 40 is a rarity ( CP Rail purchased hundreds new 40's and 40-2's) .

What's interesting – ( CP corporate )
CP Rail was a Division of Canadian Pacific Limited.
Each CPL Division had its own unique MultiMark ( introduced July 17, 1978 ) colour: Air, Hotels, Rail, Ships, Telecommunications, Truck.
If I recall the respective corporate colours were orange, gray, action red, green, yellow, dark blue. The MultiMark adorned all forms of CP assets: from cutlery, dishes, stationary, travel bags, hotel buildings, planes ( DC 8 and DC 9 ), rail cars, ships, buildings.
CP Limited sold CP Air in 1987 as part of the merger of Nordair and Pacific Western to form Canadian Airlines ( the latter bought by Air Canada before AC went bankrupt too)
October 3, 2001 Canadian Pacific Limited spin off the remaining Divisions into separate companies and at that time the Canadian Pacific Railway Limited that we know today was created.
CP Hotels acquired the Delta and Princess Hotels (in 1998) and Fairmont chain (1999) then changed name – in October 2001 to Fairmont Hotels and Resorts and in January 2006 Fairmont was acquired by Kingdom Hotels (Saudi Arabian owned ).
CP Ships Limited ( at that time THE major source of CP Rail's container traffic ) was sold in 2005 to TUI AG (Germany) who merged CP Ships into the Hapag-Lloyd division.
