Caption: For a change of pace, here is an image taken in downtown Niagara Falls' Clifton Hill tourist area of a train before it reaches Clifton on its way west.........this is obviously not very photogenic as far as locations go, but it is interesting to see just how narrow the right-of-way is along here. Not exactly world-class touristy to park your car and have a train literally looming overhead !!! And some of those trains could be intimidating in size and especially noise. Not this one though. It is off season, thus quiet in the neighbourhood; CP 8211 and 8240 on their way back to Welland after interchanging with CN by way of the industrial connector that used to run along Park Av and right thru the intersection of Victoria Av and Bridge St. No wonder the city was so happy to get CP out of town...... For some reason I cannot recall, I was chauffeured around on this day, as the Jeep parked on the left has Peter Hoople, railfan/chauffeur driver, waiting as I grab this quick shot. (I sure as heck didn't pay him.)

This was a through line, crossed right over into the US
Yes, Mr. Berry, as the “docta” says, it is/was the main line and even when Clifton Hill; a few hundred feet behind me, was crawling with crazed tourists in the summer, this track often featured 6 to 8 trains daily in touristy hours, many of them 80+ cars, crawling thru at 10 MPH driving the people nuts as well as causing horrendous traffic jams amongst drivers not knowing where they were going in the first place. “Chasing” a train was impossible.

The last train was in November 2001. Was the CP Hamilton Sub at the time, so just about the same volume as today…
The number of trains back then makes me think the volume is down from so many years ago. At least 10%. Certainly, they were not as long but industry has dried up since back then too. Little need now for the locals I used to see every day.
Great shot Mr. Mooney. My memory of this section of the line was from the other side of Cliffton heading west. I didn’t realize how elevated it was from street level. Very cool to see!
Thanks, Paul: I agree with you. And most fans would recall the line west of Clifton Hill because, well, at least it was photogenic. The elevated section I shot very few photos at, most filed under “ugly”.
Never saw a train on this line before it was removed:( I really wishope this line was still here today. Very nice photo:)
