Wow, awesome pic. Container traffic on Essex Terminal. Who knew?
This really is an amazing shot. Big time historical significance. I’m wondering what was shipped in those containers. Something either obsolete or now coming from Asia. (
Very interesting shot. In 1970 I believe that Manchester Liners still ran container ships past Montreal right up the St.Lawrence Seaway to Chicago, the Lakehead and Duluth. These could have been loaded with Canadian made auto parts for export to Britain, both GM and Ford had large British operations, to travel on a British ship from a Commonwealth country to make full benefit of the British Preferential Tariff. There was free trade throughout the Commonwealth in those days.
Awesome! Do you happen to know where on ETR this was taken?
Bill has contacted us with an update on the location, he mentions it was taken while he was on errands in the south area near the Windsor Raceway. We’ve updated the geotag location to reflect this (may not be exact).
Geotag is pretty close though – just the other side of Broadway Blvd.
I’ve never seen the original Essex Terminal paint scheme, so this photo is much appreciated.
