Ernestown is not much of a place. Never was, never will be. This station, built way back in 1855, was actually built to serve the town of Bath, about 5 KMs away. Passenger service was always light; but trains have not stopped here since the 1950s, and for a while MoW used specially-built rooms in this building. That lasted up to about 1990, and by that time all out-buildings had been razed. That includes the Hi-Visibility Outhouse behind the station. The stone building is now protected under the Heritage Act, as of 1994. It was one of around 30 stations of it's type that once stood in Ontario; but now we are down to just a few: others include Port Hope, Prescott and St. Marys' Jct. Photographic opportunity here not as wide open as it once was; trees have encroached on the scene.
