Caption: During an April afternoon, stored GO Transit GP40-M-2 721 is viewed at the Mimico, Ontario maintenance facility. The unit began life as Chicago Rock Island & Pacific after being built by EMDD in January 1967. It was sold to GO in 1982 along with a group of other ex-CRI&P units. The GP40-M-2’s worked on the commuter agency for over the next decade until new GO F59PH’s eventually put them into storage and they were retired. On May 22, 1994, GO Transit 720-724 departed Toronto via CN for the VMV facility in Paducah, Kentucky where they would be rebuilt to EMD Leasing units. Sister GO units 725 and 726 were previously shipped to VMV in 1993 and had become EMD 200 and 201.
