Caption: Due to the usually harsh sun angles I rarely shot photos of westbound trains at Grimsby station. On this day, it was grey off the lake and broken cloud to the south, so I wandered down in hopes of seeing something. This is in the day before hand-held scanners; at least in my world. So was fortunate to catch CN 9544 and 5578 with a long train rumbling by. The fancy chain and half barrel decoration was in place for the "Grimsby Village Depot", a somewhat disappointing commercial effort in taking advantage of passenger traffic and townspeople out for a stroll. It featured a couple of boxcar 'stores' as well as a caboose; picnic tables and such for having trackside snacks. The station became mostly a restaurant, but still featured a waiting room for passengers. The commercial prospect fared poorly; with the Depot opening in 1977 but gone by the end of 1979. The main restaurant held on to the bitter end, when the station was lost in the Dec 31, 1994 electrical fire.
