Dock Siding is where Road #612 thru MacTier n/b comes out at main Hwy 69, south of Parry Sound. Hwy 69 can be seen on the right, and 612 on the left in the photo. And train #336 south is taking the siding. What is interesting about this shot is the middle unit.
Back in 1996 CN took over the CP haul contract from Ontario Hydro, which involved a coal run from Beinfait, SK to Thunder Bay. Included in the deal came eleven of a group of CP SD40-2s that were captive to this operation.
They were slotted on CN as 5388-5398. (CP kept the other 5 of the 16 involved). Highly visible to the fans on account their bright red paint; by the time I shot this image in early 2001 the CN 5391 pictured here was the last one remaining. The others were actually sold back to CP in 2000. The CN 5391 (former CP 5782)
soldiered on until retirement in 2008.
Image shows CN 5274, 5391 and GCFX 6069 (Connell Finance Co) formerly CN 5170..rebuilt and leased to CN.

  1. I like this picture very much. Just nicely laid out.

  2. Thank you, sir. Different sort of an angle for a change. It is a pity the sun showed harsh on the power though.
