CP's old Owen Sound Sub was renowned for snow, and certain areas were always known for their drifting, even south of Orangeville.  
Shortline operator Cando, did not have the luxury of the plows that CP had regularly assigned to Orangeville, so when drifts were encountered, it was " put her in 8 " and blast your way through.
That is exactly what southbound high-nosed Geep 1000 is doing at Mile 31 on this blustery Feb 7 2006.

  6. Along with the other guys, this is indeed a very great scene Steve! Hands down.
    Wanted to ask you a quick question though with regards to the old passenger service track in downtown Brampton right at the double-track Nelson st crossing which goes straight into the really old and overgrown CPR station just south of the diamond, during your era with CANDO, how often exactly was it used? I am aware that every so often maintenance machines would be stored on it and on a more rare occasion, a ballast car or flat bed if they were needed for any potential maintenance but nonetheless, wanted to ask how often it happened in your era with regards to actual railcars being put on it? Was it maybe something like twice a year or even less then that?
    And did you at any point ever use the CN/CP interchange track for potential storage too of freight cars if it was ever needed? It’s switch wasn’t take out till 2011 on the CP side. CN side I believe it was taken out in 2006 with regards to photos I’ve seen from that time era.

  7. I always hoped i’d have a shot at this as the snow around here was legendary. But alas it never happened.

    I do enjoy all the snow train photos I have though. With a famous hogger to boot :) :)
