I’m not really up on my CP paint variations, but is this a rare shot? All of the photos of CP SW1200RS units that I have show black and white stripes on the cab end, not red and white as this unit. Just curious.
I just had a look at RR Picture Archives, the 8159 is the unit I looked at. In an 1984 photo, it has the black and white stripes on the cab end. In later photo’s, early 90′s and beyond, this same engine now has red and white stripes on the cab end. Possibly this is a period thing and many of your pictures/slides are from the 80′s? This was a check on just one engine number, so, my theory could be way off.
Some of the CP SW’s did receive the red and white stripes when they lost their multi-mark while other didn’t. From memory, CP 8161 and 8167 had received the red and white stripes, while oddly enough 8162 lost it’s multi-mark, however still retained its black and white stripes.
