Caption: CP S2 7032 works a local freight passing through downtown Toronto, amid the sprawling passenger facilities around Bathurst Street. By now what remained of CP's little Alco/MLW S2 and S3 switcher fleet (those in Toronto were based out of John Street Roundhouse) was on borrowed time, as the GP7/GP9 yard unit rebuild program was well underway. In the background is VIA's former CN Spadina coachyard, packed with Tempo cars, LRC's, tonnes of the blue and yellow fleet, and some stainless steel ex-CP cars. It would all be moved west to Mimico a few years later, and the land eventually cleared. Just behind the unit is the new flyunder being built between Spadina Avenue and Bathurst Street. In the foreground are a few tracks for Bathurst North Yard, that had been repurposed and rebuild to store GO trains around 1980.

Along the harbourfront in the distance: the Queen's Quay Terminal (repurposed from an industrial harbour warehouse into mixed use residential/commercial), and the demolition of the old Maple Leaf Mills (Monarch Flour) elevators and silos at the foot of Rees Street.
