Caption: CP 1416 and 1410 power the Canadian westward over the Nipigon River bridge in this late morning image taken from the side of Highway 17, just over 40 years ago as of this posting. Back then this train was daily, rolling thru town around the noon hour when on time. CP 1410 sold to VIA, overhaul completion 2/28/79 at Ogden, and CP 1416 also to VIA, overhaul completion 11/30/78. They became VIA 6558 and 6564.

Neat shot Arnold. Those two were planned to become 6500′s, but never done – the ’82 cuts saw most of the ex-CP stuff retired. Only about half a dozen of those 1400′s became “CN-ized” 6500′s, and most of the other ones that had been retired were bought back by CP for their engines and other parts to use in the Geep rebuild program.

Is the Hwy bridge on the left the one that was recently replaced and then the new span ‘popped’?
I’m not really sure about the bridge, Stuart. I think they built the new bridge to the north side and once it was open they would demolish the old one you see here for a second bridge, as I understand this is going to be 4 lanes rather than the 2 it used to be. Each bridge one way. The structure looks so-o-o-o out of place, like a mansion in a subsidized housing complex.
