CP 1245 sits in the yard just west of CP's Golden car shop on a very pleasant February 18, 2009.

Retired by CP on March 28, 2012, three years after this photo was taken, it was sold to Ontario Southland Railway on October 20th that same year.

This unit was built new by GMD in 1960 with serial number A 1909 as CP 8163, Class DS-12. It was then rebuilt by CP in 1982 as SW1200RSu and renumbered to CP 1245.

At 63 years old it continues to earn its keep on the OSR in 2023.

  2. The SW1200RS units were some of the best engines ever built by General Motors. These units were reliable and versatile: they would switch cars all day long in the yard and then run 60 mph on the main line that night! Great photo.

  3. Thanks guys! I have another view of CP 1245 taken this same day that I will post sometime in the future. It has an even better view of the mountain backdrop. :-)
