Conrail GP7 5824 leads the "Leamington Local" WQLE-1 out of Leamington, Ont on Jan 23rd 1981. The train of CN Alcohol-heated insulated boxcars full of soup and ketchup from the Heinz plant has just crossed the C&O mainline on its slow speed journey up to Comber where it will be met by "The Plug", CR WQWI local from Windsor to St. Thomas. The South end of the Leamington Branch was the Southernmost track in Canada. Both the Leamington Branch (Later owned by CN as the Leamington Sub) and the C&O (CSX) tracks through Leamington are all gone now. The ex NYC station still stands while the C&O depot burned down several years ago.

  1. Very nice.

  2. did conrail/pc and c&o compete for much traffic in Leamington or did most of it go cr/pc?
