Thank you so much for posting this Arnold!
More street running… excellent. Funny how these ‘little’ engines take on much larger proportions when contrasted against a Honda Civic rather than as SD40-2!
Ah Love street running!
One of the thrills of growing up on the hill where Merritton and Thorold met was seeing trains daily, and often on roads such as we see here, on Pine Street in Thorold. On Townline Road East too – where Merritton and Thorold met – you could find yourself sharing the road with a train. Similarly, there was a small spur line which ran from the paper mill on Merritt Street – just north of Townline Road – to a small mill on Front Street North in Thorold.
My dad use to tell my stories about how odd it use to be when the train use to stop for the stop light here back in the 70′s.
Funny how CN ran their SW1200′s nose to nose and CP ran theirs back to back… back in the day.
Interestingly Brad, in mainline road service between London & Toronto, CP London Division, “pups” were usually run “elephant style”, but at Woodstock and on the Goderich Sub they were back to back. CN often ran sets of them in road service too, usually with at least one facing backward. As you mentioned, Toronto area CP locals that had two units, like the Oakville turn they were back to back.
