Any clue if the routing changed to CSX/CN to Montreal, or NS/CP to Montreal?
Unfortunately no, we just heard it was re routed. I believe onto D&H as I think for a period CN and NS worked something out with CP.
From Railpace in 2004: by Carl Perlman
Phase I:
Rerouting of rail traffic originating in Toronto, ON destined for the Southern Tier Line. This freight will be sent EAST from Toronto to Montreal, QUE and then south via Rousses Point, NY (CP Crew District), Saratoga, NY (NS Crew District) and Binghamton, NY (NS Crew District). This will occur some time in the Winter of 2004.
Train 30T and 31T to be abolished.
Train CN 334 and CN 335 to terminate Bison Yard, Buffalo, NY. This train will be anywhere from 30 to 50 cars less than it currently is, but will continue to accumulate Southern Tier traffic via pick ups from Port Robinson, ON.
Phase II:
The haulage rights agreement will take place in the Spring of 2005. This will be when the NS Buffalo Crew District will physically man the trains.
CP Train 166 and 167 as well as CP Train 418 and 419 (Buffalo – Binghamton) to be crewed by NS Buffalo Crew District. Though these trains do not run seven days a week, it is ANTICIPATED that these two trains combined will provide work in the Buffalo – Binghamton pool seven days a week.
The utilization of the former CP Rail SK Yard in Buffalo, NY is under consideration. SK has been in a quasi deferred maintenance schedule for several years and concerns of the material condition of the rail and tie structure are being scrutinized. The NS Planning Department could deem it to be too expensive to upgrade to NS standards and MAY decide to just add tracks within Bison Yard itself.
Buffalo, NY – Corning, NY short pool to be re-established. Home terminal has not yet been assigned by the Harrisburg Division.
Interestingly enough, NS uses those 30T/31T symbols for the train that currently ends up in Montreal (CN 528/520).
