Ah, the Triple Crown train. This train always intrigued me. Do you know when the service ceased? I’m thinking it wasn’t too long after this image was taken. I remember in the 90s and perhaps into the early 2000s, CP used to handle it.
144/145 definitely outlasted their Toronto to Montreal counterpart.
Originally that service operated out of Malport Yard, via the Weston and Kingston Subs. When Malport closed (closed, reopen, closed, reopened) the service moved to Mac Yard’s Conport area and ran out of there until it was discontinued. 144/145 ran much longer and the decision to end service was actually made by Norfolk Southern as they retrenched Roadrailer services throughout their network.
CN introduced its Toronto-Montreal RoadRailer service in September 1999 and extended it to Chicago in October 2000. In 2001, about 600 53-foot Wabash National RoadRailer trailers were put into service.
