Classic MLW power!!! Old CN S-13 switchers 300 and 303 accelerate thru Bayview Junction on their way to the Hamilton TOFC facilities in this somewhat rare image. Built in 1959, they were renumbered from 8600 series. The 300 was formerly 8600 and in 1985 became 8710. The 303 was previously 8603 and it did not face renumbering again, but rather was retired in 1989. Units of this series were seen regularly around Spadina, shuffling passenger cars and consists, but on freight service such as this they proved to me very difficult to catch. I recall them around Hamilton only briefly early in 1980.

  1. is that a bridge made of ties?

  2. This is a Mooney special. Great work. It’s always rewarding when one can get good smoke and action like this – very hard to do these days…

even when shooting MLW’s it’s still a challenge.. great effort!
