CEFX 2014 sits in the light of a near by street lamp in front of the SOR shops at Hamilton yard. I've seen many photos of this engine and it's sisters being used up in Hagersville or Nanticoke, but I'm assuming it was moved down hear for maintanence of 90-day inspection.

  1. Mark – when these first arrived they spent quite a bit of time on the SOR in Hamilton. I have many shots of them in the 2008 2009 period. And yes, engines do go to Hamilton for maintenance and repair – usually a light power move from Brantford to Hamilton – SOR does maintain running rights on that section of the line formerly used by the Steel train.

  2. Mark, the SOR prefers to use the GP20D’s on the Hagersville Sub. They are prefered because they handle the trains of tank cars better. I was at Garnet on the 2nd of January and 2014 and 2006 were the two GP20D’s there. The previous Saturday they had run down to Hamilton and dropped 2019 and came back with RMPX 9431. When I saw them on the 2nd, 2014 was not online…I am not sure why that is but within the same week it had been sent to Hamilton and 2019 was back up on the Hagersville. I would assume that it is just at Hamilton for its inspection but it may have a problem that needs to be looked into.

  3. Is there any freight traffic between Brantford and Hamilton? I think on occation the Brantford SOR guys run to Paris, but I don’t know if they go the other way.

  4. The SOR job from Nanticoke goes to Paris every night and sets off their entire train there. They then run light power to Brantford where they lift the returning interchange traffic. There’s no traffic between Brantford and Hamilton, just the occasional light power move to/from the shop in Hamilton.

  5. The last freight move was USS (Stelco) engines and bottle cars transferred to Nanticoke after Hamilton shut down (just before the lockout) in ’08 or so. Occasionally an engine may go back from Nanticoke to Hamilton – I suspect they may tag onto SOR light power moves or they just may send them on CN freights.

Since the blast furnaces have yet to turn back on (if ever) in Hamilton there has not been a return move of this equipment.

  6. The last ‘freight’ move – a joint CN/SOR venture. I am curious what crew was on board this.. SOR or CN.
