Canadian National Railway train 173, behind J-4-e 5126 and with a consist of four cars in tow, has just left Guelph and is shown running beside Edinburgh Road in 1958. CNR 5126, a 4-6-2 "Pacific" built by MLW in 1920 as part of CN's J-4-e class, was scrapped two years later in February 1960.

    Stunning shot Bill. What was the exact location of this? Edinburgh Rd on the Brampton (Guelph) Sub or Edinburgh Rd on the Fergus sub?

    Definitely the Fergus sub Jacob. Given the lack of east-facing siding, this is most likely at the corner of Edinburgh and Woodlawn Rd and the train is about to cross Woodlawn and pass the approach signal to the diamond with the CPR.

    Another wonderful Steam picture. Arnold, probably mail and express were the main purpose for this train.

    Classic Canadian steam shot. What a gorgeous 4-6-2, and in very good condition. Retiring such a locomotive, and putting a torch to her, must have taken some resolution. Most Canadian steam designs were beautiful, but something about this locomotive is just regal.

    Looking at some museum archives this looks to be just north of Woodlawn Raod. At right would be Lasby’s Racetrack (for both horses and cars). Where the powerline crosses the track in the background would be Woodlawn Road/Hwy 7. The racetrack long gone is now part of the Skyjack/former-ABB/former-GE plant site.
