Caption: Busy Junction. Three year old LRC-2 6900 leads older cousin FPA-4 6785 on VIA 73 upbound through Bayview past a stopped lower priority CN freight train. The LRC, MLW’s final passenger locomotive effort, though temperamental and often unreliable, would prove to be the last Alco Schenectady descendant to see main line service. Delivery of newer power would end the careers of both of the 251 engined units; GMD supplied F40PH-2’s in 1987 would idle 1959 built 6785, whereas P42DC’s from GE in 2001 would cause VIA to set aside class unit 6900. Sadly, neither unit would be preserved.
