Built in 1936 by CLC Kingston, one of ONR's four 4-8-4 Northern locomotives (1100 - 1103) takes on water and receives some attention from the engineer during a passenger stop. The largest of ONR's steam power, these were typically assigned to the 'Northland' passenger train between North Bay and Cochrane, but also appeared in the Toronto area on lease to CNR. None have been preserved. No information was provided with this slide regarding date, location, or photographer, however Cochrane is a guess due to proximity to the street, and based on other images of the station, there were tracks on the north side of the station. The only bit of information seen beyond the locomotive is a sign appearing to partially read, "Minnawas..." The running board along the locomotive is the later, thicker stripe, rather than the original thin one seen in this 1939 image. Any further information would be appreciated.Original Photographer Unknown, Jacob Patterson Collection Slide.

  1. Thank you to Rick Robitaille who has identified the location as Temagami. That is the Minawassi Hotel in the background at right. Originally the Ronnoco Hotel, built in 1905, it became the Minawassi in 1946, and burned down in 1973. Further information here: http://www.ottertooth.com/Temagami/PhotoMonth/jun14.htm
