Caption: Budd built in 1954, VIA 88709 Laurentide Park (refurbished to Prestige Class standards) brings up the tail end of VIA #1 on this bitterly cold afternoon in Sioux Lookout, ON.
The train is making its scheduled stop for fuel, head-end crew change, and entraining passengers.
There was plenty of time to step off the train and walk the entire length of the snow-covered platform to snap photos of the front and rear of the consist, the station, and equipment in the yard.
The freezing cold temperatures and bone chilling wind brought back memories of the many days and nights spent working snow clearing operations on this territory in years past. Oh, it's nice to be retired! :-)

Beautiful. The only thing missing is the hot steam escaping from the steam line. Progress??
Travelling on today’s The Canadian, the Churchill run, & The Ocean, in the older CP Budd built equipment is very reminiscent of travelling on the CN passenger equipment back in the 50′s, 60′s, & 70′s. The sounds of the track & turnouts, the creaks & groans inside the cars, the dining car experience, and the general look of the interiors is somewhat the same. But you are absolutely correct about that one thing that is missing … the look, sound, & smell of steam running through the pipes the entire length of the train and exhausting at the tail end.
Thanks for linking me to your photo Ken. They certainly are similar. Your caption vividly captures the on-board experience in the Prestige level Park car and the overall experience on The Canadian. I’ll be on #1 two weeks from tomorrow for another cross-country journey, this time with my oldest son which will make the trip that much more enjoyable.
