The expanse of the Ganaraska Viaduct is remarkable: 1,856 foot long ( 0.35 miles ).
The original single tracked GTR viaduct was built 1851 – 1856 with 54 piers.
The GTR named the bridge the Prince Albert Viaduct, with the first train officially crossing October 13, 1856.
GTR rebuilt and widened the PAV 1887 – 1983 with some 30 piers ( plus an arch) to allow double tracking.

Fun Fact - The Notable & The Famous: GTR 1854 – 1859 built Victoria Bridge (Pont Victoria), a k a Victoria Jubilee Bridge, is 1.9 miles long with 24 ice breaking piers and rebuilt 1897–1898 with new spans for double track and later adding the 'new' St. Lawrence Seaway Lift Bridge, also adding the Victoria Bridge diversion double track with a second SLS Lift Bridge: currently the CN St.Hyacinthe Sub miles 70.3 to 72.4 ( Montreal – Saint Lambert (south shore) – Drummondville).
