Brand new New Zealand "DF" class export locomotive DF 1663 is seen on shop trucks at the GMD London Ont. plant, being moved around by GMD's ex-ETR SW8 shop switcher 102, while a sister 1600-series unit can be seen in the background by the plant. DF 1663 part of a group of 20 "DF" class units (1651-1670) built at GMD London in 1979, followed by 10 more units in 1981. EMD's model designation for them was GL22MC, a 12-645E powered 1650hp C-C trucked unit. More detailed information on the NZ DF-class units can be found here

    The rope might be there as a precautionary reminder to the workers that there is no side handrail. Nice size comparison.
