Brand New!!!! Does it really seem like all that long ago? Over thirty years since the old covered wagons went off to the retirement home? I guess it does, but I have trouble wrapping my noggin' around it all. But here is the proof; getting near the end of the F40PH order (6400-6458) in spring of 1989 as VIA 6442 and 6441 lead VIA 6541 on the morning eastbound as seen at the old Howard Rd train watching location. The event of the third track thru here some years ago ended this location for the fans. Thats Lemonville Rd bridge in the background.

  1. That New Locomotive Smell. Wonder if the crew said ‘Thank God” when they were told to pick those 2 units up and bring them to Toronto.

  2. Ahh….I remember laying eyes on my first one of these new units….stepping if our train at Napanee, Ontario. Had grown up as a kid seeing those venerable F units that I still to this day miss so much, much like VIAs old paint scheme of blue and yellow. Hard to believe the newest trainsets will be plying those rails soon. Just not the same….!
