Beautiful sunny morning. We are standing on a mound at mile 5 out of Cochrane. The Polar Bear Express (PBX) was running a bit late on account one of the boxcars had a temperamental door that didn't want to close just before the 0900 departure. In the meantime, the endless flies invited us to be their dinner and the train could not come soon enough. Consist was impressive.......ONR 1809, 1808 (Every Child Matters) some freight up front and three more boxcars on the rear with auxiliary power unit #202 and seven coaches in between. Gotta love the ONR.

  1. You are absolutely correct Arnold, you gotta love the ONR, a very interesting consist, but then the Polar Bear Express has always run with an interesting consist. Love the vehicles on the 2 flat cars, and 5 box cars – maybe some building supplies, food/provisions for summer tourist season ? At least the flies were content to eat you on the spot rather than cart you off – oh well, at this time of year they come with the territory. Reminds me of the saying “ . . there maybe flies, on some of you guys, but there ain’t no flies on us “ ( here in the big smoke, yet). Thanks for sharing, John

  2. While you were on the ONR, I was in Huntsville on a school trip and we were also blackfly and mosquito food!

    Great shot!

  3. Thanks. So there are reports now of overweight flies in Huntsville as well ?

  4. The beloved mound I too have photographed from, only to slip in mud and slide down on my rear, much to the amusement of big bro. Always pack a second pair of jeans.

  5. It was dry when we were there, and I slipped down too. All I got was a lecture about climbing.
