Caption: Bathurst Street from a different angle - below the bridge! GO Transit GP40TC 506 leads eight bilevels and a GP40-2W inbound for Toronto's Union Station in the morning, passing manual ground-throw switches and the old wooden Cabin D interlocking tower during its final years of operation. Timetables show this location as "Cabin D", the western edge of Toronto Terminals Railway territory, but when the tower was decommissioned and moved as part of the flyunder and interlocking modernization project in the early-mid 80's, this location officially became "Bathurst Street". The old manual ground-throws here were later replaced with a modern automatic interlocking plant and signal system, controlled remotely from the John Street interlocking tower.
Notable points of interest in the background are the old Inglis sign and appliance factory (at left, in Liberty Village), the old Federal Cold Storage building (middle, off Ordnance Street), and the Toronto Municipal Abattoir (right, with smokestacks from the city's Wellington Destructor). High-rise condos from the gentrified Liberty Village nearby have replaced most of the old industrial buildings in recent years, and tower over the scene today.
