Back when SD40’s were a dime a dozen on CP it was the 5400’s that I usually set my sights on, especially the ones still in their previous owners paint. CP 5431 was the highest numbered former UP unit on the roster and wore this paint until it was sold to NRE in 2005. The unit began life as Missouri Pacific 3197 before being repainted and numbered Union Pacific 4197. It is seen leading an intermodal train westbound at Streetsville in August 1997.

  1. And after, CP leased it back from NRE, but with a grey coat of paint.

  2. As you state, it was once UP 4197; but then it was acquired by GATX Locomotive Corp, numbered to GATX 2009 as I saw it many times operating (leased?) on the D&H and then around 1995 it became CP 5431 when purchased.

  3. Love it buddy
