Caption: Back in what I like to call 'heady days' of passenger trains for me to photograph, we see CP 1406 ready to depart northward to Sudbury where this train would meet up with #1-11 out of Montreal and combine to become #1,westward to Vancouver. The "Canadian" ran daily. At the time, CN's counterpart, "The Super Continental", also crossed Canada daily. Not quite a year previously from the date of this photo VIA was formed, and in October of '76 the first CN-CP joint timetable under "VIA" came into being. And the slashing of duplication began.................

You can tell CP had lost interest in the passenger train. The locomotive is very grubby looking although just departing from Toronto. A decade earlier the whole consist shone when leaving.
