Caption: Back in the day, not all that long ago. The Canadian and American dollar were almost at par; the locals were streaming to the USA to take advantage of the fact and get their "cheap" groceries & gas. A billboard campaign to try and slow the tide (seen on the left) really had little effect. Back in the day GP9 locos seemed to be everywhere on the system, and better, there were lots of trains and rail traffic in Niagara Falls. Not any more. The CN yard is desolate, the CP Montrose yard is gone; the CP main thru the city is gone as well as this connector and to see anything in trains at all, one has to wander down to Fort Erie in hopes something is rolling by the defunct CN yard down that way. How times change!! The image here is CP 8227 and 8246 heading back to Montrose from the CN yard, crossing thru the intersection of Victoria and Bridge Sts. Nostalgic.
