Caption: Back in the 80s if we did not see something really good during the day, we could bank on the 1700 hr VIA #75 to make our days' trainwatching worthwhile. Here's a typical version stopped at the Burlington West station; well, not quite your every weekend typical as an LRC-3 had been tacked on the lead for some unknown reason. VIA 6922, 6777 and 6783 made for a nice catch.
On the left is the Halton sub, and on the right, the diminutive yard at Burlington. Both CN and CP switched industry there.
Yeah, I'll admit it. I hustled out on the RoW to grab this quick shot. But then, we had to cross all the tracks to get to our shooting location in the first place.
Sure would not try that now.

AW, were you part of those crazy railfans that used to bring lawn chairs to the old Burlington station on Friday and Saturday nights to watch trains go by and hopefully get one of the “flimsies” (train orders) that the crew would sometimes throw off those “foamers” waiting trackside?
No……….I stayed clear of that crowd. I didn’t know they fetched “flimsies” there, as I saw enough of them tossed at Bayview. The only time I was actually around Burlington West was just by chance or to get my fill of #75 now and then. Bayview was “home base”. In a way I am sorry I was not with the lawn chair crowd at times, as so many of them have now passed on. Heck,it has been 30+ years…..:o(
Heading west in a couple of days. If I accidentally run over any of those reptiles keeping warm on the asphalt out there, I will think of Snake2. And maybe smile. )

I was part of that Friday/Saturday crowd 2001-2005. Some nights 10 to 20 people would be there to watch and a few of them, younger guys I have not seen since.
Best memory was CP 167 sitting at signals at burlington west waiting to finish their journey on the Oakville sub, 10 CN and VIA trains got to go ahead of him. 3 hours later they finally get their light and all 6 SD40-2′s went from 0 to notch 8 and I’ve never seen a 100 car train accelerate so fast, nor sounds so good
Jeez….. that’s looks at least 16 cars long. Those were the days!
Weekend trains were typically longer, especially to and from Windsor. When I was the conductor on 71/76 73/78 they used to have a large gruop from “Key Tours” I have no idea where they went when the got to Windsor but the sometimes occupied 3 or more cars. Also on weekends we used to have “deadhead” empty cars for Toronto

Yes I was the armchair crowd. It was a pretty good bunch except for a couple of people. I don’t remember the flimsy bunch.Some of us were modellers also.
