Caption: A visit to NAR's Dunvegan Yard (Mile 0.7 Edmonton Sub.)resulted in only seeing this branchline switcher, GMD1 #304 idling out in mid-yard as the crew probably had stopped for lunch. Despite the tough sun angle and all, in retrospect it was a good catch. NAR, which was jointly owned by CN and CP, in 1981 became under the blanket of CN after they bought out CP's share. NAR #304 became CN #1081. The NAR Shop and yard were demolished soon after the takeover. And the NAR became another chapter in the history books.

Great photo of a classic locomotive Arnold. In all my years of railroading at CN and since, the GMD-1 is my favourite model of locomotive. It looked good in any paint scheme. The only thing that would make this one look any better (in my mind) would be the dual snorkel spark arrestor exhaust stacks that were CN specific.
Thanks.
I was on a trip west visiting family (Turner Valley) and was short of time to get back East to work, but made a “minor” detour because I figured I just HAD TO see something on the NAR.
Unfortunately, when I was young I was like most all others thinking not only was I invincible, I thought everything ‘was always going to be there’.
Alas; we know what happened to the NAR.
