Caption: August 24, 1948 CP M-810 (mixed 810), which operated from Vancouver to Sumas, where it connected (freight) with the Northern Pacific. Train was the remains of a once deluxe service which connected Vancouver with Seattle with sleeping cars, on a night run. One of the Sleeping conductors on this run had been a Mr. Taylor, father of Cecil Taylor, General Clerk in Manager's office, who retired prior to 1967. Train is seen here 29 miles east of Vancouver, BC, or 101.5 miles west of North Bend. Consist: 20 cars; last is a combination, which can be seen in photograph. Old bridge high in background used to be used in some logging railroad to bring logs from mountains on north down to the Fraser river. Engine, 5221 was originally built in 1911, or approximately, and numbered in the 1800 series. Then it was renumbered to the 3600 or 3700 series, Class N-2, and in these two series (1800 & 3600) was a 2-8-0. Now, as a 5200 series, and P class, it is a 2-8-2 and resembles in specifications other P-1 class power. The conversion of 3600 & 3700 (N-2 class) power to Mikes took place late in the road's steam era, between 1946 and 1949.
